The Night Swim Thriller – Podcast Crime Story
The Night Swim thriller – Podcast crime story is an addictive crime thriller centered around Rachel Krall’s true crime podcast, ‘Guilty’ or ‘Not Guilty.’ Rachel, with her pleasingly, smooth voice, tells her listeners, “…guilty or not guilty, the podcast that puts you in the jury box.”
The Night Swim is an engaging mystery thriller. I particularly loved the podcast aspect of the story. As many of my followers and listeners know, I am now podcasting my book reviews. I was thrilled to read about how, The Night Swim author, Megan Goldin, handled the main character/true-crime podcaster, Rachel Krall. Rachel is dedicated to making her fairly new podcast a success. She is dedicated to covering crime trials in the courtroom and creating corresponding podcast episodes for each day of a trial.
Rachel has an assistant who helps her gather information relevant about anyone or anything and/or any situation associated with the trials she covers. Rachel reminds me of a modern-day Jessica Fletcher (Murder She Wrote) as she follows leads where-ever they may lead. And Rachel, like Jessica Fletcher, while sweet, does not shy away from digging into the details of the crime and going out of her way to find the truth. However, let me be clear, Rachel Krall is not your grandma’s Jessica Fletcher.
As a new and already popular true-crime podcaster, Rachel strives to provide her podcast listeners with everything they need to know to feel as though they are in the jury box. There is a very good reason why Rachel’s Guilty or Not Guilty Podcast became such an instant hit. Due to Rachel’s fact-gathering and her related true crime podcast episodes, an innocent man was released from prison.
Based on Rachel’s track record, Guilty or Not Guilty podcast listeners feel as though they have been provided with the relevant and accurate facts. Therefore, from their virtual jury box seats, Rachel’s podcast make their own informed decisions as to whether they believe the accused to be guilty, or not guilty.
The Night Swim storyline deals with two different cases. The instant case is a rape trial in which a swimmer is accused of raping a teenage girl. And the other case concerns the drowning of a girl twenty-five years in the past. As Rachel travels to the small town where the current case will be tried, she is contacted by the sister of the girl who drowned all those years ago. Her sister is desperate for Rachel to find information that will prove her sister was actually murdered.
Okay truth here…I had tears streaming down my face as I read the last few pages of The Night Swim. Truly, I began to weep as the two stories, of past and present, came to a surprising and unanticipated conclusion. The Night Swim is such a great story! I found myself wishing Rachel Krall and her Guilty or Not Guilty podcast was real. Because if it was real, I would most def be a fan! This was my first Megan Goldin novel and I can’t wait to read more of her books in the future.

In The Night Swim, a new thriller from Megan Goldin, author of the “gripping and unforgettable” (Harlen Coben) The Escape Room, a true crime podcast host covering a controversial trial finds herself drawn deep into a small town’s dark past and a brutal crime that took place there years before.
After her true-crime podcast became an overnight sensation and set an innocent man free, Rachel Krall has become a household name—and the last hope for people seeking justice. But she’s used to being recognized for her voice, not her face. Which makes it all the more unsettling when she finds a note on her car windshield, addressed to her, begging for help.
The new season of Rachel’s podcast has brought her to a small town being torn apart by a devastating rape trial. A local golden boy, a swimmer destined for Olympic greatness, has been accused of raping the beloved granddaughter of the police chief. Under pressure to make Season 3 a success, Rachel throws herself into her investigation—but the mysterious letters keep coming. Someone is following her, and she won’t stop until Rachel finds out what happened to her sister twenty-five years ago. Officially, Jenny Stills tragically drowned, but the letters insist she was murdered—and when Rachel starts asking questions, nobody in town wants to answer. The past and present start to collide as Rachel uncovers startling connections between the two cases—and a revelation that will change the course of the trial and the lives of everyone involved.
Electrifying and propulsive, The Night Swim asks: What is the price of a reputation? Can a small town ever right the wrongs of its past? And what really happened to Jenny?
