A Nantucket Wedding by Nancy Thayer

A Nantucket Wedding by Nancy Thayer is a satisfyingly enjoyable story about Alison, a middle-aged woman, and her two grown daughters, Jane and Felicity. When her second husband passed away after 29 years of marriage, Alison never dreamed she would remarry.

Then it came as a complete surprise to Alison when she met and fell in love with the handsome David Gladstone. David is a successful middle-aged CEO of his own company in Boston. Their loving relationship is easy and relaxed; David seems the perfect match for Alison. As their end of summer wedding date grows closer, David is seriously considering retirement.

There is one thing in particular that Alison would like to change. She wants her’s and David’s family to spend some quality time together this summer at David’s home in Nantucket. It is during these summer weekend visits, in a beautiful beach setting on Nantucket Island, that we come to know and understand the two families.

A Nantucket Wedding by Nancy Thayer – Book Review

Alison’s daughters, Jane and Felicity are different in almost every way. Jane is a childless, career woman and Felicity is a stay-at-home mom with two young children. But as different as the two sisters are, they are both currently experiencing strife in their marriages.

Things get quite complicated when Alison’s and David’s children, and grandchildren, descend upon the Nantucket home.  In fact, Jane and Felicity find themselves on the same side of the fence when it comes to David’s haughty and power-driven daughter, Poppy. And David’s handsome son Ethan isn’t helping matters by coming on to both Felicity and Jane.

So as we read on, we wonder if all the havoc and discord, between this soon-to-be blended family, can be overcome. And quite frankly, is the wedding actually going to happen? Ultimately, I found A Nantucket Wedding by Nancy Thayer, to be an engaging summer read about family relationships and love. This women’s fiction novel is one of my favorite summer read book club recommendations.
