The Woman in the Window by A J Finn

The Woman in the Window by A J Finn book club recommendations and book review. The book was written by author A.J. Finn and is a New York Times Bestseller. This is the story of Anna Fox, a child psychologist who suffers from agoraphobia. The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn is a taught psychological thriller. And once I began reading it, I found it almost impossible to put down.

As the story begins we learn that Anna is a child psychologist, a mother, and a wife. But peculiarly Anna lives alone, except for a male tenant who lives in her basement. We find that due to her anxiety disorder, Anna is afraid to go outside and lives like a prisoner in her Brooklyn brownstone home.

It seems that Anna’s husband and daughter visit now and then, but never they never stick around for long. This could be because Anna deals with her anxiety with a lot of pills and a lot of wine. When Anna is not watching her neighbors across the street through her window and into theirs, she spends a good deal of time watching some really great classic black and white psychological thriller movies. These film noir masterpieces play in the background as Anna, forever in her robe, continues to drink heavily while taking prescription drugs.

The storylines of the old movies are eery, yet seamless, metaphors for the circumstances and happenings that unfold in The Woman in the Window. And given Anna’s foggy state of mind, it’s easy for the reader to wonder if the act of violence Anna witnesses from her window, is real or imagined. And so, the plot thickens!

My book club members loved The Woman in the Window by A J Finn. And I received kudos from the book club group for being the one who suggested The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn. I fully enjoyed this best seller novel. In fact, once I picked it up, I had a really tough time putting it down. I whole-heartedly add The Woman in the Window to my list of book club recommendations.
